Error "Attempted to use an object that has ceased to exist" when creating team sites on some web app

We are having a problem on some of our web apps when creating team sites. We were able to create team sites on these previously but now when we try we get the errors below.

Feature receiver assembly 'Microsoft.Office.DocumentManagement, Version=14.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c', class 'Microsoft.Office.DocumentManagement.MetadataNavigationFeatureReceiver', method 'FeatureActivated' for feature '7201d6a4-a5d3-49a1-8c19-19c4bac6e668' threw an exception: Microsoft.SharePoint.SPException: Attempted to use an object that has ceased to exist. Both our UAT and prod farms have this problem but only on certain web apps. I have tried creating a fresh web app and we are able to create team sites no problem.

It seems to be related to the MetaDataNav feature but we are able to activate that feature manually. I imagine we would get the same error if we tried to create any site template which includes this feature. We are able to create blank sites ok.

This is a strange one so if anyone has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks

Dave

Hi Andre,

No I'd seen that but that indicates some element of custom code but this is just standard OOB features. Well we have 3rd party features on here but I can't see how that would or could effect it in this way...maybe feature dependencies or something like that?

I had a quick look at the feature receiver using reflector and I couldn't see anything strange going on. And I'm still puzzled why only some web apps and not others. I have tried comparing the features activated on each but that hasn't helped. Now I have SharePoint Manager out and I'm comparing properities of each which is painful but I'm short of ideas!

Thanks

A bit more info here....

I have made some progress in that I have identified the problem but I still don't understand why. I noticed that the service accounts on the "working" sites were different to the "broken" sites. The working sites were using the Farm account for the app pool (I know this is not best practice but I just created some test web app quickly and this was the default acct). The sites giving the error are using a general "WebApp" account which I am using for most of the app pools for the general web apps (my sites has a different account).

If I change the service account on a site giving the error to the farm account it no longer gives the error. When I change it back to the other account it errors again. Can anyone see how this might cause the problem?

Thanks

Dave
