Whe you detached the DB's from the farm did you clean out IIS and other SharePoint folders before your ran the config wizzard?

Answer 2

Hi Kris,

Do you mean delete the port number folder under IIS directory? and which sharepoint  folders?  Please let me know.

Answer 3

Hi Myworkxp,

The error  message is too general and there are many reasons which may cause this error. What’s the version of your WSS or MOSS? If you are using WSS 3.0 or MOSS, I strongly suggest you install SP2 first and run post configuration wizard. At the same time, check the event viewer to find more detailed error message and paste it here.

Let me know the result if possible, thanks.

Hi Lu Zou,

Sorry for the delay reply.  The server  has sp2 installed.  Version 12.0.6425.100.  There is no error  in the event viewer or the log file when I try to browsing to the page.  However, there's a consistence error in the event viewer happen throughout the day:

The description for Event ID 27745 from source Windows sharepoint  Services 3 cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

#50071: Unable to connect to the database SharePoint_Config on ******. Check the database connection information and make sure that the database server is running.

the message resource is present but the message is not found in the string/message table.

Again, none of the sharepoint site  is woking, but sharepoint central administration is.

The database is running fine.

Answer 5

1) Does these account's  have access to central admin root folder??

2) In order to change the Central Administration Application Pool account we have to go to the Command Prompt(with Administrative credentials) and issue the following statement from the 12 hive (which is under C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\bin) :

stsadm -o updatefarmcredentials -userlogin <DOMAIN>\useraccount -password <password>

After that we must issue the iisreset /noforce command.

Try changing the app pool identity using above command and see if it works for you

On a fresh CS 2009 setup, I installed SharePoint Foundation 2010 and the CS 2009 Template Pack for SharePoint 2010.  Following the installation guide, I then ran the SharePoint Commerce Services Configuration Wizard to deploy the starter site.  The wizard finished successfully.  However, when trying the wizard's View Site option (or going directly to the new site at http://localhost:[port#]/), I get an HTTP Internal Server Error 500.  I realize this is not much to go on, but was wondering about likely causes of the problem.  How would one go about debugging this (e.g., any particular logs or events to check)?  Thanks for any suggestions.

Just in case it matters, I installed SharePoint Foundation 2010 after installing CS 2009, and additionally deployed the CS 2009 CSharpSite site (which appears to work fine).

We are getting "HTTP 500 - internal server error" upon opening list attachments. The list attachments are added programmatically.

This doesn't happen for all the items in the list, but only for few items.

Has anyone encountered this issue? Any help is highly appreciated.

Hi All,

We are programmatically attaching documents/attachments to the list item through a web-part.

I'm using the below code to accomplish this. (Fileupload control is rendered in the webpart)

Stream inputStream = this.fileUploadCtrl.PostedFile.InputStream;

byte[] buffer = new byte[inputStream.Length];

inputStream.Read(buffer, 0, (int)inputStream.Length);

spListItem.Attachments.Add(this.fileUploadCtrl.PostedFile.FileName, buffer);

The attachments are getting added fine. But in some cases, only the file is attached but not the contents. when we click on the attached file name, we get the following error:

Ive installed Sharepoint 2010 on a Windows server 2008 r2 virtual machine in which it is also an AD server, Sql server 2008 sp2 is installed on another win2k8 server on a different virtual machine. Installation is ok then I run through the config without encountering problems however once the config is completed it redirects to the wizard page (http://server1:11111/_admin/adminconfigintro.aspx?scenarioid=adminconfig&welcomestringid=farmconfigurationwizard_welcome  ) but that page displays an HTTP 500 internal server error The website cannot display the page. I tried accessing central administration but it is showing the same error.

Ive checked the event viewer and found these errors.

Just installed TFS 2010 on a Windowsa Server 2008 64bit dedicated server. The installation went smooth with no error or warning.

My problem is that when I fire IIS7 and try to browse to http://localhost:8080/tfs/web I get the famous HTTP 500 Internal Server Error. I already have an aps.net site working perfectly on the port 80.

I have both TFS Server application running in the application pool.

I also verified the applicationHost.config file to make sure that the proper fields where settled to "Allow" like in this thread:

What could be wrong?

P.S I had Tomcat5.exe using the port 8080 prior to installing TFS could that cause any issue?

Hi all,

I've been trying to set up MSMQ 4.0 with HTTP Support to allow one of our partners to send messages to us. However, whenever I make any call to the msmq page I get an internal server error 500 (See below). My platform is Windows 2008 SE (64-bit) running as a DC (though MSMQ is running in workgroup mode).

Any hints on what might be causing this or how I can investigate further? Are there any log files for the ISAPI extension, or the MQISE.dll, or the MSMQ service that might help me shed light on this problem?

I've seen blogs about an issue with MSMQ 3.0 where the machine name can't be 15 characters long, is this still the case with MSMQ 4.0?

The error details are as below,

Server Error in Application "WWW.MYDOMAIN.COM/MSMQ"

Internet Information Services 7.0

HTTP Error 500.0 - Internal Server Error There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, so it cannot be displayed.
Detailed Error Information
Module Notification Handler Error Code
Requested URL Physical Path Logon Method Logon User

The path to the ISAPI Filter is incorrect. IIS received the request; however, an internal error occurred during the processing of the request. The root cause of this error depends on which module handles the request and what was happening in the worker process when this error occurred. IIS was not able to access the web.config file for the Web site or application. This can occur if the NTFS permissions are set incorrectly. IIS was not able to process configuration for the Web site or application. The authenticated user does not have permission to use this DLL.
Things you can try: Ensure that the path to the ISAPI DLL is correct. Ensure that the NTFS permissions for the web.config file are correct and allow access to the Web server's machine account. Check the event logs to see if any additional information was logged. Verify the permissions for the DLL. Create a tracing rule to track failed requests for this HTTP status code. For more information about creating a tracing rule for failed requests, click here.
Links and More Information

This error means that there was a problem while processing the request. The request was received by the Web server, but during processing a fatal error occurred, causing the 500 error.

Any help on this would be much appreciated,

Ben Ellis

Windows Server 2003 - IIS6.0

I have 2 private queues defined on the Win Server: RequestQueue and ResponseQueue. "MSMQ HTTP Support" is enabled on the server.

A client application is using Internet Messaging in MSMQ to directly place a message in the RequestQueue on the server.

When the client application attempts to place the message in the queue, the server returns with 500 Internal Server Error.

Using a sniffer -

The client makes a TCP/IP connection with the server and sends the first frame:

POST /msmq/private%24/requestqueue HTTP/1.1
Host: ronr679
Content-Type: multipart/related; boundary="MSMQ - SOAP boundary, 2088"; type=text/xml
Content-Length: 1143
SOAPAction: "MSMQMessage"
Proxy-Accept: NonInteractiveClient

The server responds to that first frame with with:

HTTP/1.1 500 Internal server error
Connection: close
Date: Tue, 05 Oct 2010 22:19:57 GMT
Server: Microsoft-IIS/6.0
MicrosoftOfficeWebServer: 5.0_Pub
X-Powered-By: ASP.NET
Content-Length: 0

There is a message on an MSMQ blog which describes my problem exactly:

It points to an KB to solve the problem:

However my Win 2003 server name (I assume they are talking about the DNS name) is well under 15 characters so I don't think this is my problem.

I think this is something related to the Message Queuing ISAPI extension (MQISE.dll) set up. In the MSMQ property | Virtual Directory tab | Configuration, I've got MQISE.DLL for the wildcard application map so I'm thinking that the POST would be processed.

Is there some other MSMQ settings I am missing in setting up IIS to receive MSMQ messages over HTTP?

Hi all,

I've developed a webpart for user to login to my web site. My web site use claims based form authentication. I've used <asp:Login> control for my webpart. After enter user name, password and click to login button, I get 500 INTERNAL SERVER ERROR. I found below event in Event log:

Event ID: 7363

Object Cache: The super reader account utilized by the cache does not have sufficient permissions to SharePoint databases.

To configure the account use the following command 'stsadm -o setproperty -propertyname portalsuperreaderaccount -propertyvalue account -url webappurl'. It should be configured to be an account that has Read access to the SharePoint databases.

 Additional Data:

 Current default super reader account: NT AUTHORITY\LOCAL SERVICE

Anybody got the problem & have solution to fix?

Thanks very much in advance,

Hi all,

I got the following error "The remote server returned an error: (500) Internal Server Error" when i attempt to do a HttpWebRequest on an intranet website of a customer. The intranet needs credential in order to access it. Initially we would have a 401 error but it was because the credentials were not set. Now credentials are set correctly with login/password according to Debug too. But there is an error 500.

Basically the error happened when doing myResp = (HttpWebResponse)myReq.GetResponse(); in the following code :

publicstaticstring[] UrlExtensionFileSupported(string locationUrl)<br/>
	string[] saveAsType = null;<br/>
      HttpWebResponse myResp = null;<br/>
		HttpWebRequest wReq = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(locationUrl);<br/>
        wReq.Credentials = new NetworkCredential(LoginCredential.ToString(),<br/>
        myReq.Timeout = 3000;<br/>
        myResp = (HttpWebResponse)myReq.GetResponse();<br/>
        string rawContentType = myResp.ContentType;<br/>
        Utilities.writeToLogFile("INFO : rawContentType=" + rawContentType);<br/>
        saveAsType = getExtensionTypeAndMessage(rawContentType, locationUrl);<br/>
      catch (WebException exception)<br/>
        Utilities.writeToLogFile("ERROR : UrlExtensionFileSupported Exception = " + exception.Message);<br/>
return saveAsType;<br/>

How can I fix this error for my customer ?

I have a serious problem that cannot be solved by googling around the keywords below:
sharepoint, moss 2007, reporting service, ssrs 2008, rendering, internal server error, ....

The error is;

"An error occurred during client rendering. The remote server returned an error: (500) Internal Server Error. "

Everything is O.K.;

* When I render the report from the REPORTSERVER (http://localhost/ReportServer)
* When the reports are scheduled to be sent by the reporting service (planned via MOSS 2007)

But if I open (render) the RDL file from the sharepoint REPORTS LIBRARY interface, all of the reports fail with that internal error message above.

It is weird also that parametrized reports are displayed without errors although the parameters are queried from a sql dataset. But I got the error when rendering the report after I've chosen a parameter  and order "apply/report"...

Possible causes how I met that error may be;

After I have installed (then uninstalled) AJAX extensions
After I have re-configured IIS Web Service Extensions list items

Possible solution alternatives I've found;

I've found a solution on MSDN replying a similar issue with an ideal cause of the error but an evreka answer but no solution suggestion from the author.

What the guru says is; "The report is successful in reporting services, but SharePoint never gets and renders the report.  You can check your wait times in RS and SharePoint(ASP).  When we checked them RS was 9000 and SharePoint was 2000.  When we increased the SharePoint, the report rendered."

But how? See detail at

I'll appreciate for the exact match to my trouble :(

I am receiving the following error when I try to access the web site:

System.Net.WebException: The remote server returned an error: (500) Internal Server Error

Can anyone help me... what could be the cause for this error?

Thanks in Advance!

Recently, we have deployed Sharepoint 2007 on Windows 2008 x64bit. Everything went well, now we need to perform further customization on the standard page redirect when a common error such as (404, 405, 406, 412, 500, 501, 502) is hit but we are having difficulties get it setup.

Further elaboration:

When a user hit on a sharepoint page: http://sharepoint/pages/ it will return with the default.aspx page, but when user hit on a page http://sharepoint/pages/testing.aspx (when this page does not exist), it will return with the standard http 404 page error, but what we are looking at is to redirect the user to the homepage http://sharepoint/pages/default.aspx

I have edit the web.config to add in the following code

But it still redirect user to the standard http 404 page error...

Can you kindly advice.

Hi ,

         I am using fck editor in asp.net and c# .It works well on my localhost but it gives error on live server when i upload an image through fck,The error is

The server didn't send back a proper XML response. Please contact your system administrator.

XML request error: Internal Server Error (500).

Please help me some body.How  i can solve this issue.

Hey there,

I have installed FCK editor.  I have gotten it to work with ASP.net. I have changed skins. I set read/write permission on the folder I want to upload to and its sub folders. I ran it locally but when I run on my site the code it gives the XML error.  I have changed folders around in the config.ascx (UserFilesPath) found in: /fckeditor/editor/filemanager/connectors/aspx/ folder.  The folder fckeditor sits in the following folder:  mysite.com/nbtours.com/.  When I compile my code, and go to the compiled folder of the website the config.ascx is not found there but the dll of it is found inside the bin directory, why so?  If you have the above scanario and you have the folders set like the above what am I missing?

We have just recently moved/rebuilt our SharePoint farm in a virtual environment. And everything is working for except the search. The crawl log is giving the following error:-
Error in the Site Data Web Service. (*** Client found response content type of 'text/html', but expected 'text/xml'. The request failed with the error message: -- <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1"/> <title>500 - Internal server error.</title> <style type="text/css"> <!-- body{margin:0;font-size:.7em;font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica,)

I have tried putting failed request tracing on the web server but it never logs a 500 error. I've also tried changing the crawl account and the web application server that is being used for the crawl and get the same error. Has anyone seen this error before in the the crawl log?

I have configured one of my SharePoint sites default zone with windows authentication and claims authentication. I am able to access the site properly with windows authentication. But, when I am accessing the site with claims, I am getting Http 500 error. When I captured the http headers, I see below information.

Does anyone can guess what the problem could be?

We have done an SharePoint 2010 In-Place Upgrade. After the upgrade, we can access the Central Administration page without problems.

However, when accessing the standard http port 80 site, the following error appears:
