Will .NET 4 run and install on a Intel Atom Processor N450 netbook?

Not sure where else to find this info...

Does it matter if the netbook is running Windows 7 vs XP sp3?

Answer 1

If the hardware supports Windows XP and 7, it will support .NET Framework 4.0.

.NET 4.0 will install  and run  in both Windows XP SP3 and in Windows 7.

Is it possible to work with Visual Studio 2010 in the 10 inch netbook with atom processor (1.66GHZ , 2 GB RAM and 5400 rpm). Please help me as i have a plan to buy one netbook with same configutaion next month.

Hello there fellows ^^

I seem to have a problem with an application i made. I hope you can help me with this as it has puzzled me for awhile now.

The Application---------------------

The application itself...

- is written in visual basic

- uses the VLC activex plugin v2 as a COM component

- has been compiles in all 3 modes (x86, x64, and AnyCPU)

- was developed in Visual Studio 2010 with the 3.5 .NET Framework as a target

Basically what this application does is connects to my server, and receives a http stream at port 8080 (inside the stream is audio/video) It also has a schedule function that retrieves a text file from my server and displays it as the schedule. The schedule updates itself every second. It is made up of 2 forms. The first one is the startup form that contains the vlc COM component to display the stream. It also has a menu strip on it that leads to the second form which contains the schedule display.

   How does it work?

Well to connect to my server i have the vlc COM component add the stream url to its playlist, and then play it. Easy stuff. The schedule display downloads a text file from my server and reads the file, then displays it on a read only text box.

After building, the application needs AxInterop.AXVLC.dll and Interop.AXVLC.dll to run. These .dll's only need to be in the same directory so there's no problem there. All 3 files amount to 128 KB. I bundle all 3 files in a SFX archive with WinRAR for easy transport and so the .dll's don't come unsupplied. Without the .dll's the program will not work.

The Development and Testing Environment------------------------

I use Visual Studio 2010 as the IDE. It is run on an Asus 1005 PEB with a x86 Intel Atom Processor at 1.66 Ghz and 1 gb RAM. (Yeah I know not exactly the best development environment but I get by) My OS is Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit. It is up to date and has up to .NET Framework 4 (plus the extended, multitargeting pack etc.) installed. VLC 1.0.5 is installed with everything (activex and mozilla plugin included, and yes I know this isn't the absolute latest version, but it works flawlessly for my uses {as a streaming server and receiver also the mozilla plugin works perfect on my website})

My testing environment is on a toshiba laptop with an x64 AMD Turion II Dual Core at 2.3 Ghz with 4 gb RAM. The OS is windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. It is also up to date, however it only has up to .NET 3.5 Framework on it (but that's what I'm developing for anyways) It also has VLC 1.0.5 on it (activex and mozilla plugin included)

So What's the Problem?-------------------------

Well when I start the application in the testing environment (yes I have tried all 3 different builds with same result) it says that it is not working and windows proceeds to try to "solve" it, however it generates no output for me to see. It won't even load the first form. It's not really a crash because it doesn't seem to run, more just like an execution failure when I start it. Details of the event log are further down in this post.

Before You Say It...---------------------------

Yes, my server is configured correctly and the proper ports are forwarded on my router. I know this for a fact because my website is up on the internet and accessible outside my local network. I also have it set up right now with the VLC mozilla plugin and anything streamed plays flawlessly. The application I made uses the exact same port as the plugin in my webpage, 8080 of course. Im working on other protocols but that's for later.

    Did you build in x64?

Yes I did. It wouldn't run on my netbook of course, but it'll try on the x64 Toshiba. Also I built in AnyCPU mode too.

    Has it worked already? (Is it actually functional?)

Yes it is functional and it works perfectly on my Asus netbook. It starts, opens the stream, and plays the content. The schedule function also works perfect.

    What about those .dll's?

Those work as needed already on my netbook. Even if they are with the application as should be the application refuses to work on the laptop.

I've really tried to solve this on my own, but to no avail. Usually I'll get stumped and solve it in a few hours but it has been a few days. I hope someone can help me with this as it would really help me out.

I'm really grasping at straws, but we have bought a little netbook for my daughter birthday present , which I thought was going to be perfect for her, but we are trying to get into most sites that she goes on and they need a flash player, is there anyway of getting round this as the netbook will not let me install anything on to it keeps coming up with "this is not a valid CE application"

I tried downloading trial Windows CE embedded 6- but will not let do that either

Can you remove windows CE off it and install another OS?  Or is it going to be easier to cut my losses and buy another that will allow me to install flash

If anyone could advise I would really appreciate it.

When I refer to the post at http://blogs.msdn.com/phaniraj/archive/2009/03/21/ado-net-data-services-friendly-feeds-mapping-clr-types.aspx which says that ado.net data services acutally allows the returned atom feed to be customized using: EntityPropertyMapping

However, when I use the entity framework which generates the class automatically, i place
[global::System.Data.Services.Common.EntityPropertyMapping("Latitude", "lat", "geo", "http://www.georss.org/georss", true)]
[global::System.Data.Services.Common.EntityPropertyMapping("Longitude", "long", "geo", "http://www.georss.org/georss", true)]
on top of the partial class generated to have additional customized tag to make the returned feed GeoRss atom feed, but it doesn't work.

Do I need to config the mapping in the edmx file also? Does anyone know how should I achive this?
(using this method is because I can still query over the data but returned format is GeoRss)

The 64-bit Intel version of App Verifier 3.3 fails to install on our 64-bit Intel machine. When we use the AMD version of the installer, it does not generate logs when we run our MSI installer package. The installed application runs correctly in Test Case 4 on the 64-bit machine.

Hello everyone,

I have a merge publication configured that has been running fine with no issues for many weeks.  Here is my setup... Publisher - SQL 2008 SP1, Distributor - SQL 2008 R2, Subscriber - SQL 2008 SP1.

On Wednesday and Thursday of last week, I created a few hundred foreign keys referencing a table (user information for auditing).  Then, on Friday evening, I started to receive this message:

Msg 8621, Level 17, State 1, Procedure MSmerge_sel_sp_18DB84E1A521483601D2A6D477F6483D, Line 85
The query processor ran out of stack space during query optimization. Please simplify the query.

I have traced it down, this command gets executed:

exec MSmerge_sel_sp_18DB84E1A521483601D2A6D477F6483D @maxschemaguidforarticle = 'F990B1EE-D52F-4DCA-8EEF-C1783DA47A0F', @type = 6

Which executes this:

elseif @type = 6 -- sp_MSenumcolumnsbegin
    select  t.*          from [dbo].[USERS] t where 1=2
    if@@ERROR<>0 return(1)

If I execute MSmerge_sel_sp_18DB84E1A521483601D2A6D477F6483D myself, I get the error as well.  I'm not really sure what I can do here or why it is not working now.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hi all!

I need to know about how to install and run a .NET application on MAC OS.

I have been searching all over the internet and only found MONO Framework and somewhere Wine, but these frameworks only support executing .NET apps, but there is no information about how to create an installation package of my .NET project for MAC OS.

Anyone, please help me in this issue...

My application required .NET Framework 2.0.

Currently, if it is not installed the user recieves the following error: 'The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135)'.

It becomes extremely tiresome repeating to users that this is because the framework isn't installed. Is there some way to check if .NET framework 2.0 is installed before running, or in some way change this cryptic message so the user knows immediately?

I'm new to Crystal Reports and my company has a website which I've installed on Windows Server 2003 SP2.  The website uses Crystal Reports and I found the following references in the web.config file:

        <add assembly="CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine, Version=10.5.3700.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=692fbea5521e1304"/>

        <add assembly="CrystalDecisions.Shared, Version=10.5.3700.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=692fbea5521e1304"/>

        <add assembly="CrystalDecisions.Web, Version=10.5.3700.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=692fbea5521e1304"/>

        <add assembly="CrystalDecisions.ReportSource, Version=10.5.3700.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=692fbea5521e1304"/>

        <add assembly="CrystalDecisions.Enterprise.Framework, Version=10.5.3700.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=692fbea5521e1304"/>

        <add assembly="CrystalDecisions.Enterprise.Desktop.Report, Version=10.5.3700.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=692fbea5521e1304"/>

        <add assembly="CrystalDecisions.Enterprise.InfoStore, Version=10.5.3700.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=692fbea5521e1304"/>

        <add assembly="CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.ClientDoc, Version=10.5.3700.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=692fbea5521e1304"/>

I tried installing Crystal Reports that came with Visual Studio 2005 but the version is 10.2.3600.0.  I then tried installing the CRRedist2008_x86.zip package which appears to be the runtime components but the problem persists.

Here is a copy of the error returned when I try to run a report:

Logon failed. Details: ADO Error Code: 0x Source: ADODB.Connection Description: Provider cannot be found. It may not be properly installed. Error in File C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\xxx {827B3A33-C3BE-404A-B19D-AEDCE8FE3FA2}.rpt: Unable to connect: incorrect log on parameters.

What do I need to install to get the website up and running?

Thanks in advance,

I have the same problem described in following thread: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/netfxsetup/thread/d8601382-83a4-4039-a71b-3b68dcdc6e26

I'm running Windows 7 x64 Ultimate

I installed the .NET Framework 4 Client Profile and even tried installing the FULL/Extended edition the install appears to go in just fine, no errors or anything. Once I try to run a program it fails to work, I tried to verify my .NET4 installation using this tool...

It ALWAYS fails the verification no matter how many times I uninstall/clean up and reinstall...

Here is a snippet from the verifier log...

.....[07/22/10,17:35:35] Section [Registry - .NET Framework 4 Full (Wow6432Node)] - stop parsing entries

I have already tried what suggested in the thread mentioned (uninstalling all .NET 4 parts, disabling AV software, installing as administrator), but it ain't helped.

Hope that someone can resolve this issue,

I have recently posted a blog entry on how to setup and run NUnit in the .Net world.

Being new to the agile world, all of these new tools can be overwhelming. One of the first things you may want to do as an developer is write a test. As developers, we are curious about how good our code is, but how do you write a test? What tools do you use in the .Net environment? By the end of this tutorial, I will show you how to install, setup, and use NUnit to write your very first test. Once you learn how to write these tests, you will realize just how easy it is to test your code.

I seem to have the same problem as these good people,

.NET 4 installs (reporting no overt errors).. but will fail verification with this message. .NET 4 applications fail to run.

[07/22/10,17:35:35] Launching process 'Netfx40TestApplication.exe' now
[07/22/10,17:35:35] Process successfully launched. Waiting 300 seconds for it to complete.

[07/22/10,17:35:35] ****ERROR**** Verification failed for product .NET Framework 4 Full

I do get this event log error when installing .net 4.0 full version , but not the client. Of course neither one works.

ErrorCode 2149842967
  CommandLine wusa.exe "G:\e1781735b278c4779d6d\Windows6.1-KB958488-v6001-x64.msu" /quiet /norestart

 Steps already taken to troubleshoot this include fully uninstalling .NET 4.0 and reinstalling (both client and full); reinstalling .NET 4.0 over itself with a repair install; installing .NET 4.0 full over a client install; I've also run full disk scans etc., and my system is fully up to date with Windows Updates.

Any one know what that error code means? Maybe it can help me and the others.

I get this error when i try to install nopcommerce running on asp.net 4.0.

It seems that when you have IIS 7.5 it includes some of the elements in the machine.config so you have to adjust your web.config file. For deeper explanation look into this url: http://www.asp.net/learn/whitepapers/aspnet4/breaking-changes#0.1__Toc256770149 .

Anyways i managed to get around that by deleting the duplicates and adding this allowDefinition="MachineToApplication" to the section elements. But now i get new error in the urlrewriting config source. Here is the screenshot for that error:
Please help :) Br David

I have an unusual situation going on right now, which is giving me a chance to get some unusual views of the guts of SQL Server.  I'm wondering if what I see is known, is a feature or a bug, or if I shouldn't believe my lying eyes!

What I have is a situation where an app developer is accidentally (harumph) submitting some impossible cartesian joins to the server, and letting them run for an hour before noticing or killing them.  Fun to start with, right?  But here's the thing.  We have four processors and maxdop=0.  These queries generate parallel plans.  So what happens is the first one in grabs all the processors and runs forever.  Sometimes smaller queries leak through, somehow.  I'm not sure how that works!  But here's the thing, there are two more cartesian joins already running also, only ... they aren't really running.  They are consuming CPU time steadily, but doing no logical IOs.  I presume what is going on is that they can't reserve all the processors they need for their plans, and so are "resource starved" blocked, which does NOT show as blocked on things like sp_who2.

So, my question is, if they're just sitting there resource blocked, and the cpu times are running up fast - is that a bug?  Or are they actually maybe doing something useful with all that CPU, that does not seem to be the case on the cartesian join that is running OK?

Looks like a bug to me.

... which will affect all of you, when you get a pile of impossible cartesian joins (trying to generate and return 300b rows!) submitted to your server all at once!

Hi all,

I am building a setup project for my .NET 4.0 WPF application.
When the setup program is run, I would like it to detect if .NET runtime is available on the end user's machine.
If it is not, I wolud like the setup program to download and install the runtime.

How do I do that?

Thanks in advance.
