.NET 4.0 Framework Install Fail

Hi

I have a Win 7 (Ultimate) and I've failed to install the ,NET Framework 4 on it.

I got this error initially trying to install VS2010 and the logs said I got an "Access is Denied" error on the .NET Framework 4.0 install.

I downloaded the .NET 4.0 install seperately and tried to install it and failed with the same error.

I then followed the solution you listed in

http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/netfxsetup/thread/1e40f004-1892-4ccc-bf22-cdd247b0099e?prof=required

I have already sent you the logs.

Any help you can give me would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Robert

Hi Robert,

Thank you for your email and clarification.

I've checked the log files that you attached in your email and found the following error  message:

Launching CreateProcess with command line = wusa.exe "C:\Users\Rob\AppData\Local\Temp\Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Setup_4.0.30319\Windows6.1-KB958488-v6001-x86.msu" /quiet /norestart
Exe (C:\Users\Rob\AppData\Local\Temp\Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Setup_4.0.30319\Windows6.1-KB958488-v6001-x86.msufailed  with 0x5 - access  is denied.

Then I checked WindowsUpdate.log file and found:

Generally speaking, "access denied" means that the rights is not enough to install  the Windows6.1-KB958488-v6001-x86.msu updates.

We might try the following steps to solve this kind of issue:

Firstly, please check your user account with Administrator privileges since it is required for .NET Framework installation.

Secondly, if you're running Vista or later OS, the installer must be run with administrator privileges (Right-click the installer >> "Run as Administrator").

Thirdly, please try using the SubInACL tool to repair file and registry permissions http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2006/09/04/739820.aspx
SubInACL tool is most useful when a setup package fails with error code 5 or 0x5 or 0x80070005.  All of these error codes mean Access Denied, and this type of error code is often caused by missing ACLs for the Administrators group or the built-in System account.

Fourthly, please try the workaround mentioned in this similar thread:
Windows Update Error 0x80070005

Hi Robert,

Thank you for your reply and feedback.

Did you also try the steps mentioned in this link: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistawu/thread/a9a2c92d-793b-4050-bdb1-720bb97bd78d?

Based on the log files that I posted in my last reply, we can narrow down the possible cause to Windows Updates with the error  "0x80070005" on your Windows 7. This means that we need to assign the sufficient permission to install Windows6.1-KB958488-v6001-x86.msu updates.

Could you please try the workarounds mentioned in the following similar issue (Windows Update and error "0x80070005")?

Hope this helps! If you have any concern, please feel free to let me know.
