Problems with LifeCam VX 3000 software

I`ve just purchase a LifeCam VX 3000. The software loads okay. I then click on the LifeCam icon on the desktop to start the program. But when the window opens nothing works when I click on them. To close the window I have to shut it down in Task Manager. Sometimes the window will open but all I get is the hour-glass icon which never stops. Again I have to shut it down through Task Mangager. The webcam works fine in Skype but I can`t get the software to initiate. I`ve installed the latest software from the Microsoft website.

Thanks

I have been having lots of problems  with my VX3000 audio. My laptop is a Dell1505 w/ MS XP Media Edition. It worked for a few months and now due to an 'upgrade' for the camera it does not work with audio, video is OK. I updated the messenger software  t obeta and it still did not work, updated to new camera software still did not work. THe audio works when  Iopen the camera software by itself. But not with Win Live Messenger. Any thoughts

Answer 2

I installed the vx-3000 on Vista 32bit with the latest software  and it work just fine.  I tried it on a Vista 64-bit OS, and I have the same problems  that "jaycee 61 " has mentioned.  I talked to microsoft tech support (the last thing I would ever do) and the guy has no idea what is going on.  So, I guess we have to wait for a patch or try a different brand.

Answer 3

I am having the same problem: The software  loads fine, and I get a message that the webcam is installed and ready to go. However,  when I open the program it completely hangs up. I can't access the wizard to change any settings. Did you (or anyone else responding to this message) ever get this issue resolved? After spending about 8 hours uninstalling and reinstalling the software, I'm ready to throw this thing back in the box and return it!

Answer 5

I am having exactky the same problems  , I have managed to get it to work once or twice and  thats  it. It DOES work  when I use it in Windows Live Messenger, but if that is all it was designed to do, why doesn't Microsoft say so? Instead of promoting it as an all purpose webcam ?

Answer 6

Same problem with VX-3000 on XP Home.

Answer 7

just wondering if you got an answer to your problem cause I am experiencing the same thing!Sure hope that some one can help me!

Answer 8

Are there any solution for the mentioned problem?

I've got same problem, vx-3000 works perfectly on vista 32 or xp 64 bit, but on vista x64 it's not working.

Answer 9

I haven't had any luck yet.  I got a second machine with Vista 32 bit which is working so....I am ok for now

Answer 10

Same problems  here too.  lifecam  VX-3000 working fine under XP, but have just finished a brand new clean build of Vista X64 and my Lifecam is the first piece of hardware and software  after the basic OS and drivers to be installed.

It doesn't work - it hangs/freezes and eventually I get a black screen instead of an image.   I've found several reports about the 64 bit drivers and this lifecam.  One interesting message indicated that it might be related to memory, as when he reduced memory from 4Gb to 3Gb, the Lifecam worked.  But failed with 4Gb.

I have 4Gb of memory, so I'm thinking there is a driver problem for systems with 4Gb and 64 bit vista.

Anyone else?

I had also tested logitech quickcam express (Which is Vista "compatible") on my system ,it  was not working on Vista x64 (after 2 months e-mailing with the L-tech support, I give up, their support like sh*t) . I tried Logitech quickcam on 2GB, and it had same effect, after I bought MS Vx-3000 (it's also not working). it's very disappointing, I think also that it is general system problem with Vista X64. (anyone heard working webcam under Vista x64?

I tried modifying the registry and other things, seached several forums,  but there isnt any solution for the problem.

I've got 4 GB at the moment. I switched back to XP64, because Vista 32 doesnt support 4GB Ram

Answer 12

my VX 1000 camera does the same, even hangs the vista 64 (home pro edition). got also 4gig ram, thats why i use 64 and not 32. all other drivers are working fine, except for the microsoft product???? how is that possible?

installed latest 1.3 lifecam  package of course.

on XP and vista 32 is has been working, only 64 vista doest work.

Answer 13

I couldn't run the camera because I didn't realize the thing was plugged in when I installed the software, then it wouldn't see the camera.  I uninstalled and reinstalled, then I found these links.  I downloaded the logitech software  and it runs.  Weird?

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929087/en-us

http://support.microsoft.com/ph/11859

I don't know if this i will help.  I had a error 39 which got me to this with a google search.  I couldn't find much other info.

Answer 14

Hi All,

I bought 2 x VX-3000 webcams. the first one installed fine on an XP machine.

So now I've started installing the second one on my Dell laptop (600M w/ WINXP).

Software installed OK.

Then the lifecam  software ran for an update...that was OK.

But when I run the software  the preview screen is Black!

In short...I start up the lifecam software, it says "Connecting....", and then words dissappear, and I get a black BOX Sad

I chose the "Audio & video Settings" under the Lifecam Menu.

I can hear the audio test, the microphone works and I can see myself during the video setup.

Then it finishes....and the lifecam software says "Connecting.....". But the screen stays Black.

Here is the wierd part. If I press the video button(on the lifecam software) it starts recording, but the lifecam screen stays black.

But! If I go to the video I just recorded and play it...its fine!/? Color is there and video looks great.

(When I take pictures, they stay Black)

I've tried changing the resolution values in the lifecam software. No good. I've tried going into the DEVICE manager and deleting all USB peripherals and then reboot. It's all the same. Black screen!

Also note. If I go into Windows Explorer//My Computer//VX-3000. I can see myself! My webcam works there.

I tried installing the Logitech software from the link, listed in a previous post by Clueso (Microsoft-suggestion) but that didn't do anything for me!

This is driving me nuts!!!

I want this fixed.

I also noticed that in my Device Manager, under "Imaging Devices", I only have one item which is the lifecam.

But it says "Microsoft Lifecam VX-3000 #3"

What does the #3 mean?

Hopefully someone will figure this out!!

Answer 15

A few updates, but no good news.

I uninstalled everything. Including the Logitech Webcam stuff.

I deleted all the lifecam  folders. And did a fresh full install.

Including the updates for the lifecam software. I'm running version: 1.21.113.0

I tried rebooting and using different USB ports.

Right now, in DEVICE MANAGER, under Imaging Device, it says "Microsoft Lifecam VX-3000"

In the properties of the lifecam it says "This device is working properly". I don't see any error code?

Answer 16

I called Microsoft for tech support. I will admit that getting through was fast....I was surprised!

I was also surprised to find out that tech support is in India!

Anyway, microsoft installed some software  which took over my PC. They did some PC changes, but were unable to get it going.

The diagnosis was. "It's your Dell Laptop, there is a conflict".

So that ended the call there.

From there I decided to create a "Windows Live Messenger" account.

Logged in and set up a contact. The contact is my other computer, in the other room.

Then I chose to make a "Video Call".

So while the WLM is contacting and waiting for the other computer to answer, I noticed the webcam is working!!!!!

I'm in the "Video Call" program and I can see myself in the webcam image in the bottom right corner.

This is what its suppose to do.  Smile

So I run ito the other room and answer the rining computer message. The other computer is already logged into the Windows live messenger account I created on that PC. So I answer the message, and now everything is fine?

Both PC's are webcaming to each other just like they are suppose to! Yes!

I go back to my Dell Laptop, (600M, WINXP, SP2) and shut down Windows Live Messenger.

And fire up the "Microsoft lifecam  Software".

The screen says "Connecting...." and then....

As expected....the webcam is not working. Black preview screen!

I guess overall.......everything is fine then?

I'm looking at the "Microsoft Lifecam Software", and going through the options....But what is this software for?

It seems kinda seems useless.

I thought the lifecam software worked right along with Windows Live Messenger?

Interesting....

In short....

Microsoft Lifecam software on my Dell Laptop, which has WINXP SP2 does not work.

The screen is black...and when I say "screen", I mean the black box inside the Lifecam software window.

I tried different window sizes, and even made changes to video graphic settings.

I also tried installing the logitech software that the microsoft website suggests...Nothing!

I did not see any errors in the Device Manager...Under the Hardware section...

But since I won't be using the Lifecam software....who cares??

It's works in Live Messenger.

Good luck to you all!

Answer 17

i have recently purchased toshiba laptop window 'vista'. I also purchased microsoft lifecam  vx3000 but it does not run on vista window whereas it say useful for XP window etc. for vista window I require technical help to install and run 'microsoft lifecam vx-3000 on my Toshiba laptop window vista. .........please help immediately

Answer 18

Good luck with that.  Microsoft seem to be dragging their heels over this issue.  It's their webcam, their OS and their drivers.   Why can they not make a driver that works with Vista?  Is there a hardware problem that they don't want to admit to, and don't want to have to recall all their webcams that they say are Vista compatible?

Answer 19

sattarmiyan ,

Does the webcam work in in windows explorer?

Under my computer,

If you see it there, double clicking on it should make it work.

Also, have you tried using it through something WINDOWS LIVE MESSENGER?

Like I said in my posts. The lifecam  doesn't work with it's own software......for me.

Works great in messenger.

Hmmmm, but then again, I'm XP.

I have absolutely no plans to switch to VISTA.

Answer 20

i have the same problem.....worked fine in vista 32 and have no mic in vista 64 using messenger....the 3000 works fine in every other program...i dont get it....any ideas?

Answer 21

After I bought a new monitor (Benq fp241wz), I pluged the vx-3000 in the monitor's usb hub, and installed the 1.3 lifecam  software, i noticed the vx-3000 cam was working perfectly on vista x64 system!

(I apologize for quoting something that does not deal with my question, but I am new here, and do not understand how to simply post.  My apologies!)

I am having this same problem.:

"

If I click the Microsoft Lifecam icon on my computer, it immediately freezes, and I cannot do anything to prevent it, or use it after.  I can only close from task manager.  Is there anything I can do about this?  I would very much like to be able to record video, audio and take pictures with this cam. Smile

Thanks so much in advance.

Answer 23

Irene1028,

Which version of windows are you running?

What kind of computer? (Dell, Compaq, IBM)  is it a desktop or laptop?

Is the lifecam  software the only software related problem your computer is having?

If the lifeCam software  isn't even getting started, then I would try unistalling it.

Note that if you unistall it, you will have to go to the LifeCam folder and delete everything.

LifeCam leaves a folder behind after the uninstall

Then I would try reinstalling.

There is an update available for the lifecam software, but I believe you can only check for updates

after the software has started.

Answer 24

Honestly, I know nothing about computers.    I'm on a Windows XP, and I think it's from 2003, if that means anything to you.  It's a laptop.  And yes, this is the only problem my computer seems to be having.

I tried uninstalling and re-installing before, but I didn't know it left that folder behind.  Thank you very much for letting me know!  I just uninstalled and deleted that folder, and I re-installed again.  I'm still having the same problem...  Thank you very much for your suggestion.  I hope I can find out more. Smile

Answer 25

Ive read that others have had problems  with laptops, but this is a little different since LifeCam won't even start.

Well, since you bought the webcam new, you do have the luxury of talking with microsoft.

If you look at the tag on the webcams USB cable, you should see the number to call.

I called microsoft and I got through quite quickly.

They will want the number off the tag. From there they will direct you to someone who works with these webcams all the time.

They may even get you approve some sort of take over software.

This is where you sit back and watch them control your computer from a distance.

You might have some sort of DLL file error or conflict.  Something isn't allowing the program to start up.

All I can suggest is searching more forums like this,....and or calling microsoft.

If you find a solution, please post back Smile

Good luck!

Answer 26

I tried installing Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000 on my new PC that came loaded with Windows Vista. When I attempt to install the software  from the provided CD, I get the following error message: "The system could not find the environment option that was entered." I downloaded the software from Microsoft's website ... same results when I tried to install it.

Then I tried loading the software from the CD onto my old PC with Windows XP ... everything worked fine ... the CD loaded and the software and hardware worked as expected.

Does anyone have any idea how to work around this problem? ... your help will be appreciated.

Answer 27

The LifeCam is possibly the most buggy webcam I've ever used. With a clean WinXP sp2 installation on different machines I still receive ocassional BSOD's using driver version 1.3

Bit disappointing that MS products aren't compatible with MS software! Think I'll be switching to Logitech, at least their stuff works!

Answer 28

My problem:

VX-3000 doesn't show video using Vista 64 with 4GB RAM. I tried using Windows Live Messenger, Skype, and VX-3000 software  itself. And NO VIDEO.
On XP 32 bits everything works.

Possible cause:

Maybe Vista 64 with 4GB RAM? Someone here in this forum already told us this could be the cause.

Solution:

Where is Microsoft at this moment? We want a solution, fast.

Thanks

Answer 29

I am using VX-1000 on Vista 64-bit Ultimate (8G ram), already using the most updated Driver version 1.3 still cannot get the webcam work. I also try to using Logitech Quickcam Pro 4000 and using the most updated driver, seems also have problem in Vista 64-bit, but these webcam work fine in Windows XP.

Does any MS engineer notice this problem?

Thanks

Answer 30

MS knows.

Not sure if they will back fix it....or just release a webcame for 64 bit systems.

What ever is best for their financial pocket.

Answer 31

I have 3 year old rebuilt computer with a Celeron 2.26 gig processor and 2 gig of ram running an up to date XPSP2.

I just bought the vx3000 about a month ago. The supplied software  v 1.3 installed and thought everything was fine.

I went to Live Messenger, was able to adjust the camera and do video chats with no problems.

Later I noticed a camera logo on my desktop. When I opened it, the webcam connected, looked and worked fine. Then I tried to open the life cam menu (top right) and the Microsoft Life cam (top left) drop menus.

They open when I click on them but close when I move to select an option.

I can make no settings from here.

I checked, found LifeCam v 1.4 and installed it. Same problem.

A week ago a friend got the same webcam for his birthday. He was having problems  installing it so he called me.

I had not problems at all. His supplied software version was 1.21 and it was bought at the same store. We clicked the life cam logo on his desktop and the program opened. The dropdown menus I cannot access worked fine. He can check for updates and set up his webcam from here.

We went to Live Messenger and it worked fine.

I then downloaded v1.4 and it worked fine. He is very pleased with his webcam.

When I returned home I downloaded v1.2 and still had the same problems. I then reinstalled v1.4. I cannot update, adjust the camera or do anything from the dropdown menus.

The dashboard, capture and resolution controls work OK.

I must use Live Messenger to adjust the camera; all of the camera tools here work fine.

I would assume my problem is in my computer but 2 others have purchased the same life cam and are having the same problem I am.

Both of the LifeCam dropdown menus are useless to us.

All I have not done yet is to use my friend’s supplied software v 1.2. I am not hopeful.

Answer 32

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM UNTIL I UNINSTALLED IT A COUPLE OF TIMES AND THAT STOPPED BUT NOW I CAN'T GET IT TO WORK WITH YAHOO MESSENGER.  AN ERROR MESSAGE APPEARS STATING THE WEBCAM IS NOT CONNECTED.  I'VE CHECKED MY COMPUTER AND IT'S COMPATIBLE AND THE MICROPHONE WORKS FINE SO THE WEBCAM SHOULD BE DETECTED.  RIGHT?? I'M COMPUTER ILLITERATE SO IF ANYONE CAN HELP ME OUT PLEASE.

Answer 33

V1.4 still not working with x64 and 4Gb.

I thought they might have fixed it, but now 10 months on, time to get a refund I think.  It hasn't worked since the day I bought it.  Microsoft you should be ashamed.

Answer 34

I got lucky and i found a solution to the driver and software  problem with the Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000

The first thing you see when you open your new Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000 is a label on the USB plug that tells you specifically to install the software and then plug the webcam.... People.....the answer is simple....dont you ever follow instructions....I followed the instructions and it didnt worked at all the installation CD.......So I did exactly the opposite...I broke the label....and plugged the webcam......the installation program of Vista began.....asked me for the installation CD....I inserted it.....and VOILA!!.....one webcam perfectly installed.

I hope it works for you all...have fun

Answer 35

Scientistfly - glad that it works for you, but I very much doubt you are using Vista X64 with 4Gb of memory.  Microsoft have confirmed to me that this configuration does not work.  They don't have a fix.  They don't know when a fix is going to be available.

Answer 36

Simes123 - I would like to show you, vistax64 and lifecam  1.4 is working perfectly in my rig.

just check:

http://www.kepfeltolto.hu/2007/10/17//60jc.jpg

I wrote several post before, I bought a new tft and it has a usb hub, after I pluged the webcam in the tft's usb port, it has been working ( version 1.3 driver also worked perfectly). I think you should buy Usb Hub and check it, maybe it works

Answer 37

I finally got the solution for those who are having problems  with:

VX-3000 lifecam  + Vista x64 + 4GB RAM

Just download the file Windows6.0_KB933433_x64.msu (search for KB933433 on google) and install it!!! It is a fix from Microsoft and it solves the problem with this webcam!

ENJOY!!!!

If someone wants the file from me, just add me on MSN. The file is less than 500KB.

Hugs!

Answer 38

Actually better to apply the updates re:  http://www.istartedsomething.com/20071003/vista-pre-sp1-updates/

The KB you referenced has been superseded, and there is a later USB patch that works (and some other good fixes too).  Fixes the problems  with x64, VX-3000 and 4Gb entirely.

Answer 39

i use vista home premium 64k running in 2.4 q-core 4gb memory, first this cam doesnt work, ive read almost every solution to this problem but it didnt do **** to help me,so i was about to throw it away then i saw my vista update update flashed, install the optional update then restarted my pc and the webcam worked, vista has lots of problems  but microsoft is trying to fix it,well patience is not a virtue, but i suggest they try to fix recent problems before releasing new ones to the unsuspecting consumers like me and you of course from having the frustrations in dealing with it,coz i dont have the patience to wait....well goodluck on trying to make your deadcam to work coz youll need it

Answer 40

Hopefully someone will be able to shed some light on my audio problem.  I successfully installed the software  on my home PC (XP) and my daughter's (Vista - got the update from Microsoft).  My father doesn't have a webcam but installed WLM on his PC.  My sister installed a Logitech webcam on her laptop.  In all cases, we can share video (except obviously my father but he can view us) but no one can get the audio to work so we wind up having to type our conversations.

The audio mike works fine when tested but the other party can't hear us.  there must be something very basic that I'm missing.

Unrelated:  On my XP machine I was able to access a "dashboard" and make a short video.  On the VISTA machine, it's nowhere to be found.  In fact I can't find any program related to the LifeCam VX-2000.  Despite that, I can share my webcam with another party.

Could someone give me some guidance?

Answer 41

Worked for 1.5 month and after an upgrade it did not work anymore. Downloaded Skype and now the microphone is dead

. After 45 days no refund! I went ahead and purchased a headset with microphone and now I can call through Skype.

To say that I bought this vx3000, the most expensive of the cams that were there to avoid this kind of problems. Next time I will buy a Philippes. In fact I bought one to send to my family in Africa and they have a good image quality and no problem with the device. I am using XP with the VX3000.

Answer 42

I bought a VX3000 and sent it across the country to my sister inlaw. Now my wife and I can watch our 20month old nephew grow up.

After some time we started getting noise through the audio...More like an annoying hum.....on their end.

We could hear them, but faintly, the hum was over powering.

I sent them another VX3000....same issue.

I should note that the "Hummmmmmm" problem occured after a video game was installed....(Something like Halo?)

Anyways...

They started to experience other computer issues so they reformatted the computer.

After the format, the webcam worked 100%. Both webcams were tested good.

I'm not saying these webcams are perfect, I'm saying they are fussy with their conditions.

The webcams I have will not work on my dell labtop, but they work great on the computer I built. ASUS mother board.

Must be some sort of driver, or DLL conflict ??

Answer 43

just some information that I've managed to pick up here and there.. to get the vx 3000 to work properly...it has to be installed to a ' 2.0 '..usb port...nothing lower will support the cam...secondly...those still having problems  with freezing and getting booted on windows live messenger...like ME...lol  ( xp2 home..running 8.5 with friend with vista..8.5 on wireless laptop..both with vx 3000's) you might try purchasing a USB HUB..with an ac Power Adapter ..available at most stores that carry pc stuff...)  cams suck alot of power and might be causing your system to initially think about mildly going into a defense mode using that much power and creating a pc's no.1 enemy...HEAT....plugging the adapter into the usb port..and THEN........plugging your cam into the AC ADAPTER ...might solve the problem with freezing and eventually getting booted...its a shame that microsoft can sell the product..which worked PERFECTLY on XP.but apparently doesnt work well with vista yet.. one last thing..for those who have purchased the vx 3000..keep it..its a great cam once you get it working with your present system..tried logitec..and a few others..which were less in price..by the way...and installing it into xp was easy...just remember to install the SOFTWARE .FIRST    it will prompt you when to plug in the cam...

Answer 44

to all with vx 3000 cam...take it from one who KNOWS...do yourself an EXTREME favor..disconnect the 3000's microphone and purchase a headset w/ microphone..no more TINNY sounds..and the sound transformation is the difference between day and night...sorry microsoft..but. you can only get so much into the cam housing...and your mic.is terrible..good if you have nothing else...but not much...lol

Answer 45

Matilda...if you've tried most everything else...try going into the set up on the 3000..and try setting up the sounds for HEADPHONES  ...and purchase a headset with microphone...I did that and what a difference it made...

Answer 46

EASY FIX FOR lifecam  NOT BEING DETECTED
i have always had problems  with the vx3000 software  not seeing the camera, messenger always did though, screen opens message says no camera detected on this computer. i did notice that the software would see the camera ONCE PER USB PORT, whether it was direct to motherboard port or, through a usb hub. FIX FOR ME was to uninstall and reinstall the usb hub in the device manager. I uninstalled the usb hub, pressed the tab to scan for hardware changes, and the hub reinstalled itself, my vx3000 and the lifecam software now work as they should.

if this works for others, someone who knows how should point this out to the right folks.

good luck and good day all.

Answer 47

ports on my hub started failin again after about an hour, guess the fix aint permanent, but at least in only takes a few seconds to uninstalll the usb hub and reinstall it.

Answer 48

Hello

I have somewhat the same problem, my system is bugging out after installing a shareware. I tried TuneUp utilities 2009 and it messed up my system completely! I had done a restore before hand but could not use it the damage was so severe!

I have fixed a few things by uninstalling and reinstalling them and I seem to be getting to a rather stable spot. I hate starting over, formatting and or using Ghost images, loose too much work.

I ran into an article a while back that spoke of how Windows has a tendency to remember UBS devices and keeps them in memory. The numbers you are seeing are there because the camera might have been unpluged without using the umount device manager or whatever it's called, you know the popup in the tray that lets you sellect a menu option to remove device safely?

When you don't use that USB devices are remembered and remain in the system until no slots are available and you suddenly find yourself with devices refusing to mount.

Try installing a little utility called USBDeview. It allows you to see what devices are using what resources and to delete them from memory. You will basically be uninstalling the device from the device manage and the system will simply show a popup 'new device found' and reinstall the drivers.

It's harmless and it'll make your # go away, freeing up adresses for new devices. Try a search about it and read. I found out about it by doing a search on "USB thumb drive won't mount" and found an article that explained how Windows operates with USB adresses etc.

As for me my problem is strange indeed. I can't reinstall the drivers to my VX1000. I ran the uninstaller in cpanel and the installer still alerts me with the following:

A current version of LifeCam software  is already installed. To reinstall LifeCam software, you must first uninstall the lifeCam software from your computer.

I've tried using search and deleting traces with titles for VX1000 and LifeCam on my HDD as well as in registration, I tried to decompile the installer to see if I could find a line of code somewhere that would tell me where the installer is looking before doing it's job to no avail.

Anyone have a clue?

Answer 49

Hi

If anyone is still having this problem. (as someone else suggested)  I found that creating a desktop icon from the camera icon in MyComputer will allow you to access the software  ever though the Microsoft LiveCam software will not start from the Icon that the installation creates.

As for getting the message that says some element is still installed try downloading and running CCleaner's registry clean up.

It will uninstall left over entries.

Thanks

Having trouble with the software, I found a solution...

I was having the same problem and figured it out and now my Microsoft LiveCam is working fine.  Logitech built these cameras and therefore, you can download the software  for Logitech's website.  What I did was search for Logitech Web Messenger Camera, downloaded the software, plugged the camera in and ran the software.  The Logitech software recognizes and has an option to select the camera listed as Microsft and it should work.

Good Luck

Similar thing - My BRAND NEW Microsoft VX-3000 won't work with Windows Live Messenger. It works on the Microsoft LifeCam program, but it comes up with a webcam and a red x on WLM. I have Windows Live Messenger 9 on Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 2

I just downloaded ManyCam 2.4 FREE software. Run that, it will find your VX3000 and has many inhancements over microsoft software.
