I am new to programming and have just finished one of my first projects. I would like to possibly sell this application, but I need to figure out how I'm going to get the app. protected.

I plan on selling the program as a digital download and was wondering what the steps would be to issue serial licenses to the people who will purchase it.

Can anyone please direct the first few steps? It would be greatly appreciated.

I already have installed Visual Studio 2008 but was configured to go with SQL Server 2008, thus the menu for VS 2008 will be for SSIS, SSRS. How can I add Visual C++ and Visual Basic?

This is probably the wrong forum now that Visual Studio is RTM, but I couldn't locate an updated forum.
Visual Studio 2008 RTM Visual Basic "Choose Toolbox Items" works properly running on Windows Server 2003, but fails with an unhandled exception error running on Windows Server 2008.
Is anyone else having the same problem and is a fix available ?
Thank you.

I am working on a a program that uses a textbox to display data from a telescope.  Normally the data is standard ASCII characters, but there is one time when the data is displayed as blocks to indicate the number of degrees to go.  The textbox font is set to Sans Serif in the property box.  When I show the blocks, I want to switch to Wingdings.  I have searched how to change the textbox font and tried several ways found, but none of them work.  I know that the textbox will handle Wingdings - I can set the font property and it displays correctly.

The most common method I have seen is

txtDisplay1.Font = New Font("Wingdings",26.0, FontStyle.Regular) ,but like all the other methods tried, the font never changes.

So what am I doing wrong?

I have installed Visual Studio 2008 Express Edition and have made sure SP1 was installed before hand.

I am try to complete the Visual Basic Training exercise module1 and everything is fine until I try to add a data connection to the NORTHWIND.SDF database file.

I get an error message saying '....Access to database file is not allowed...'

However I can clearly 'see' and the file and it's path when using the Browse funtion from the 'ADD Connection' window.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Visual Basic 2008 Express edition but this does not help.

I've also uninstalled and reinstalled the SQL Server 2008 and this does not help either.

Has anyone else had the same problem or know what I need to do to fix this?

In a while loop, I am writing a progressively increasing integer value (between 0 and 100) to the Value attribute of a ProgressBar control, when it disappears from the window in which it resides.  I have verified at the time that it disappears that the Min is 0, Max is 100, and Value is a valid integer in range.  Any suggestions?

I had VB2008 Express on my machine, registered.

I previously installed and used MS Visual Basic 2010 Express beta 2 ENU on XP SP3 machine.

Now it asked for Registration. So I tried. It complained I sould update to full 2010 release. So I tried this.

It didn't succeed. It complained about old beta 2 ENU Components that need to be uninstalled.

I removed everything named 2010 in Systems software.

I updated .net 4.0 beta 2 to full .Net 4.0.

Still it doesn't install. It still complains about old beta 2 ENU components I now cannot find.

What else should I do?

I think this Issue is relevant to all that installed VB 2010 beta 2 ENU

Thank You for any advice!

How do you extract source code from a VB.NET .EXE file?

Hi ,

in Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition (Beta 2) , when opening a new Windows Application project ,

and then opening the (form) designer  (or double-click on Form1.vb , which is created by default) ,

I am getting the following error message :

Microsoft Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition :

There is no editor available for "C:\Documents and Settings ... \Form1.vb" .

Make sure the application for the file type (.vb) is installed .

This problem doesn't occur for me when using Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition .

How to solve the above problem in VB 2008 Express Edition ?

Thanks in advance ,

Lior .

I would like to use a SQL Compact Edition database in an application I'm building in Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition Beta 2. I see that VBEE2008 is advertised as having "Fully integrated support of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition". I understand that this means version SQL Compact 3.1, not version 3.5. Is that correct?

I've installed SQL Compact 3.5, SQL Compact 3.1, and the SDK for SQL Compact 3.1. I can't figure out how to use the SQL Compact engine to do anything. The only hint I have of SQL Compact support is when I go to Add New Item, Local Database, type a name, and click Add. I then get an error message saying:

"The data provider required to connect to the local data file could not be found. The file will be added to the project but the typed DataSet associated with the file will not be generated."

I do see Database1.sdf show up in the solution explorer, but I can't do anything with it.

I'm confused as to which version of SQL Compact Edition that VBEE2008 is even supposed to be able to connect to, let alone how to get to a database. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Just installed and testing Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition. Upon instantiating object of any class using New keyword, consistently recieving this error:

"Overload resolution failed because no accessible 'New' accepts this number of arguments."

Error first occured while was trying to test demo/sample :

Code Block
Dim db AsNew NorthwindDataContext

Then tried altogther very simple code:

Code Block

Dim s AsNewString

In both the case, receiving same error.

Kinda in hung state, any help!!

I'm trying to archive a visual basic 2008 project using winrar
Looking to learn VB.net (beginner here) for the object oriented programming of the program I use for work (Civil3D 2010).  Those forums state learn VB.net.  I just bought MS VB 2008 Step by Step and going thru the chapters.  The questions I have are.  Is there a difference between (and in programming) VB2K8 vs VB.net?  Am I wasting my time with this book?  If VB.net is what I want, which book would be good for me to start with? I also bought the MS Visual C# 2008, which I planned on reading after the VB 2K8.  Would like to get on the fast track for Vb.net programing.

I looked all over the forum posts here and didn't see the answer to a question concerning iframes within the webbrowser control (there were similar issues however).

The forum has a classifieds section that allows members to post threads daily. I have a message that I like to send once every day to a forum and decided that it would be best to achieve this programmatically. However, I noticed in the visual basic 2008 webbrowser control, that it doesn't seem to automate the iFrames within the browser using the htmlelementcollection codes.

Here is what the iframe looks like in the html format:

<TDclass=controlbar><TEXTAREAstyle="WIDTH: 500px; DISPLAY: none; HEIGHT: 350px"dir=ltrid=vB_Editor_001_textareatabIndex=1rows=10cols=60name=message></TEXTAREA><IFRAMEstyle="WIDTH: 500px; HEIGHT: 350px"id=vB_Editor_001_iframetabIndex=1></IFRAME></TD><TDclass=controlbar>

Can someone please show a code sample for the above html iframe elements using the webbrowser control to input text inside of the textarea using a textbox1.text to specify the text going into the iframe textarea (this is where my message goes obviously). I'm trying to get my message into the textarea as soon as the webbrowser control loads the page

Would appreciate the help.

Kind Regards

I have a Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition application that operates as a front end for iSeries V6r1. The application was developed on a windows 7 machine. Users load the application from a shared folder on a server. Currently, there are 2 Vista, 3 windows 7 and 4 XP users. All had no problem in loading application, all users except 3 of 4 XP users can run the application with no problems. However, 3 of the XP users receive the following error message when they perform any action that tries to connect to the iSeries:

System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection.

All 4 XP users are on same service pack

Any ideas where i should start looking for the problem? Thanks in advance

i created a program types text upside down for you. I also made it to where you need a serial key and code to activate it after 10 uses. The problem is when i publish it and it creates the install i save it to my folder. Upon installing it i get this error when the program starts up

Microsoft.NET Framwork

unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. if you click quit, the application will close immediately.

could not find file

the AbvgLib.dll file is in the folder with the made program but not the install folder. if I placed the above file in the corresponding folder the program then works fine. File that is missing is the count down to the end of the trial.

What I need to know is how to tell Visual Basic 2008 to install that file to a certain directory. listed below is the full details when I click on details. This is full error message I see

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging

For example:

    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.
