Unable to locate the MySQL DB option in the Server Explorer while using Trial Visual Studio 2010 pr

I have installed the MySQL .NET connector  , but unable to locate the MySQL Database option while doing a Add new Connection in the 'Server Explorer' window. I am using TRIAL version of the Visual Studio 2010 prof edition.

I do know that this is a limitation with the Express editions , but is it also not available in the trial versions of the Visual studio 2010 prof edition ??

It's possible that I'm just missing it somewhere, but here goes:

In VS 2003, with sql server 2000 client tools installed, the "Server Explorer" window in VS had a "Generate Scripts" option, which gave you a dialog window which allowed you to select multiple vs single files, ansi vs unicode, etc, for tables, stored procs, functions, and the like typically displayed in the server explorer.  We used this scripting capability constantly for maintaining our database project and solution, after making our modifications in query analyzer and later SSMS.  Even after moving to VS 2005/2008 and sql server 2005, the VS 2003 instance would still allow for this scripting; successive versions of VS don't appear to do so.

I've changed companies, and no longer have access to my old machine with that software installed; we recently got VS 2010 professional, and I was very excited to see the database project in 2010 came with a wizard that did something very similar to how I was accustomed to maintaining a db project.  However, it still appears as though there is no "generate script" option in either server explorer, schema explorer, or elsewhere that allows one to select an existing stored proc, function, etc and generate a script for it into your project.  Granted, I could script the objects in question out of SSMS to files and add em to the solution after the fact, but it seems like a lot of extra steps for something that was commonly available in the 2003 edition

It's possible I'm just missing the option somewhere in the new version.  Anyone?

The MSDN documentation states that I should be able to start a service from Server Explorer in VS 2010 as documented below. However, the option doesn't seem to be there and i've read on another post that its not available in 2010. Am i doing something wrong or is the documentation incorrect.http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/htkdfk18(VS.100).aspx To manually start a service from Server Explorer

In Server Explorer, add the server you want if it is not already listed. For more information, see How to: Access and Initialize Server Explorer/Database Explorer.

The Servers node of Server Explorer is not available in the Standard Edition of Visual Studio.

Expand the Services node, and then locate the service you want to start.

Right-click the name of the service, and click Start.

Im trying to create an extension (menu item) that generates a class based on what a stored procedure returns. The menu item only shows up in the stored procedure right click menu. I have the menu item, it works great, but cannot get the selected stored procedure name. It returns "System.__ComObject". As you will see in the code, I have been trying to determine the type using VisualBasic.Information.TypeName().

Reason I need this: I have a data access layer that targets only stored procedures on a SQL database (due to company policy). It takes a type, creates a new instance of it, then populates it with the data returned from the SP using reflection on the column name. Which, leads me to this extension I am creating. I would rather generate the class than have to spend the time coding it.

Here is the code for the extension (Yes, I used the wizard):

///<summary>/// Initialization of the package; this method is called right after the package is sited, so this is the place/// where you can put all the initilaization code that rely on services provided by VisualStudio.///</summary>protectedoverridevoid Initialize()
      Trace.WriteLine(string.Format(CultureInfo.CurrentCulture, "Entering Initialize() of: {0}", this.ToString()));

      // Add our command handlers for menu (commands must exist in the .vsct file)
      OleMenuCommandService mcs = GetService(typeof(IMenuCommandService)) as OleMenuCommandService;

      if (null != mcs)
        // Create the command for the menu item.
        CommandID menuCommandID = new CommandID(GuidList.guidEntityGeneratorCmdSet, (int)PkgCmdIDList.cmdIdGenerateEntity);
        MenuCommand menuItem = new MenuCommand(MenuItemCallback, menuCommandID);
    #endregion///<summary>/// This function is the callback used to execute a command when the a menu item is clicked./// See the Initialize method to see how the menu item is associated to this function using/// the OleMenuCommandService service and the MenuCommand class.///</summary>privatevoid MenuItemCallback(object sender, EventArgs e)
      // Show a Message Box to prove we were here
      IVsUIShell uiShell = (IVsUIShell)GetService(typeof(SVsUIShell));
      Guid clsid = Guid.Empty;
      int result;

      string selected = GetSprocSignature(sender, e);

            ref clsid,
            string.Format(CultureInfo.CurrentCulture, "Inside {0}.MenuItemCallback(): {1}", this.ToString(), selected),
            0,    // falseout result));

    privatestring GetSprocSignature(object sender, EventArgs e)
      MenuCommand menuCommand = sender as MenuCommand;

      string selected = "nothing";
      if (menuCommand != null)
        IntPtr hierarchyPtr, selectionContainerPtr;
        uint projectItemId;
        IVsMultiItemSelect mis;
        IVsMonitorSelection monitorSelection = (IVsMonitorSelection)Package.GetGlobalService(typeof(SVsShellMonitorSelection));

        selected = Microsoft.VisualBasic.Information.TypeName(monitorSelection).ToString();
        //monitorSelection.GetCurrentSelection(out hierarchyPtr, out projectItemId, out mis, out selectionContainerPtr);//IVsHierarchy hierarchy = Marshal.GetTypedObjectForIUnknown(hierarchyPtr, typeof(IVsHierarchy)) as IVsHierarchy;//if (hierarchy != null)//{//  object value;//  hierarchy.GetProperty(projectItemId, (int)__VSHPROPID.VSHPROPID_Name, out value);//}

      return selected;

Hi All,

I've just installed SQL Server 2008 Developer Edition. I have opened up Visual Studio but the only project templates available are the Business inteligence project templates, under Other project types/Visual studio solutions there is only a blank solution option.

I have checked the installation folders (Common7/IDE) and there is only the blank solution template.

What have i done wrong and how can i locate and install the Templates?

Hi All,

I'm pretty new to .Net, having come over from Java when I started my new job. Recently my ASP.NET projects have gotten bigger, to the point that I want to do some proper unit testing, as my mind seems to favour test-driven development.

I'm having trouble getting any unit tests at all to run at all, even on the most basic methods. The message I'm getting is this:

The description for Event ID 1310 from source ASP.NET 2.0.50727.0 cannot be found.
Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer
 or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

After what the message said about 'installations' I tried reinstalling Visual Studio, but to no avail.

Can anyone help with this? My project compiles with no errors, and it runs / debugs just fine. I just can't run unit tests.

Thanks in advance,

Why can't i install project server 2010 trial on sharepoint 2010 trial?

As stated on the trial download page: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/ee410540.aspx , i have to install sharepoint server 2010 first, and there is also a link to the sharepoint server 2010 trial.

I have already installed the sharepoint server 2010 trial, and confirmed that it is working.

When trying to install project server 2010 i receive the following error: http://i38.tinypic.com/6z118n.jpg

The project 2010 faqs at: http://www.microsoft.com/project/en/us/project-server-faqs.aspx also states that i have to install sharepoint server 2010 trial first.

is this i bug?

please help.

I am posting this question on behalf of our customers calling for support regarding this.

Here is the problem.

Got a customer who got a copy of visual studio 2010 pro that expired. Now, they want to extend it by 60 days. They've ran to the process already of filling up the form and getting a trial extension key. But, the question is, where will they apply the trial extension key to run the program for 60 days?

Please reply ASAP.

How do I get into the registration page to extend my trial version of Visual Studio 2010?

Please respond ASAP.

I have a key to extend the Visual Studio Professional trial, however, when applying the key I get the following error.

"This product key cannot be used to extend the use of this product."

The key that I am trying is RGP94-KHYCY-HKY2G-RYPK2-2932C

I installed Visual Studio C# Express.

I had some problems with it so I uninstalled it.

I think I may have accidentally deleted some critical files when cleaning up my computer.

Then I tried to reinstall. It failed without much helpful information.

So I tried to install the trial version of Visual Studio 2010 Pro instead. It also failed with a full error log.

The log starts with this line:

[09/21/10,15:56:23] Microsoft Application Error Reporting: [2] Error: Installation failed for component Microsoft Application Error Reporting. MSI returned error code 1601

This is similar to the error from the Express version.

Then the next two lines are

[09/21/10,15:56:25] VS70pgui: [2] DepCheck indicates Microsoft Application Error Reporting is not installed.
[09/21/10,15:56:25] VS70pgui: [2] DepCheck indicates VC 9.0 Runtime (x86) was not attempted to be installed.

And then from there on its just many more lines of "not attempted"

Can you tell me what I need to do to get the installer working again ?

I'm using a modern, clean, well managed Windows XP system. It's all uptodate with the latest system updates etc.

Thank you.

The trial version of visual studio 2010 professional didn't ask me for a serial or anything. So how is it a trial, what I'm saying is what are the terms. Am I allowed to use it as long as its for evaluation and thus I can't really publish or sell anything I make with it?

I am trying to extend the trail version 2nd time. Here is what is happening.

some time back I have installed VS 2010 and extended also. When I try to use today it says "Your Microsoft Visual Studio evaluation period has expired." and it also says "You can get a key to extend your trial by registering this copy of Microsoft Visual Studio online.  You may also purchase a key to activate the product."

When I click on "Obtain a new key online" button it takes to online give a product key, sends me an email saying that

"Thank you for registering your Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate Edition trial. You can now continue to enjoy the great features the Visual Studio 2010 development system has to offer, free for an additional 60 days"

It gives the same key it gave when I extened for 1st time if I enter this key in the product key textbox and click "Activate" button  it says "This product key cannot be used to extend the use of this product"

When I initiall install the VS 2010 during that time some sales person from Microsoft call me and enquired about me and organization and the requirement for the VS 2010 software. He mentioned that I can externd VS 2010 two times before I buy the product.

Can some one please help me on extending the VS 2010 2nd time. We are planning to buy the VS 2010 in 1st/2nd week of January 2011? Meanwhile I have to work on VS2010 to develop some proof of cencept.

Thanks in advance for your help

I have downloaded Visual Studio 2010 Professional Trial version, which has expired. When I try to extend my trial version with the product key provided (RGP94-KHYCY-HKY2G-RYPK2-2932C) I get the following error message: This product key cannot be used to extend the use of this product. I am currently enrolled inan online C++ Programming course that requires Visual Studio to complete my assignments. I am planning on purchasing a full version of Visual Studio 2010 in a few weeks with tax returns. Is there anything that I can, or can be done until then to get the trial version working?

Thank you in advance for the assistance.

I have installed a TFS 2010 proxy server on windows 2008 server machine. I also installed team explorer 2010 on this machine. I am able to connect to the TFS server from the team explorer. But my proxy server is not working correctly. The problem is when I try to connect to this proxy server from the client machine I got the error as

Team foundation Proxy server Error

TF15044:Unable to connect to this Team foundation Proxy server:

Possible reasons for failure include:

                - The Team Foundation Server name , port number or protocol is incorrect.

                - The Team Foundation Server is offline

                - Password is expired or incorrect.

The IIS server is running properly as I am able to connect to the IIS server from the client machine through http://tfs-2010

Please could anyone help in resolving this error.

I installed MySQL Connector/Net 6.3.5, but it will not integrate with Visual Studio 2010. What I want to have happen is from “Database Explorer -> Data Connections -> Add Connection” I see "MySQL Database".

Ive tried to reinstall, with the same effects as before. There is nothing concerning my problem at dev.mysql.com.

Any Suggestions? Thanks in Advance.

Hello everybody.

I'm using Visual studio 2010 express for WP7.

My application needs to get datas from a Mysql server.

So I have download and install the mysql connector for .NET applications.

But in the server explorer Window, when I add a new datasource, they are only Microsoft Access and sql Server as choice.

Is it possible to use the mysql connector with Visual studio 2010 express ?

If no, can I connect the application to a PHP script, and return XML or JSON to the application ?

Best regards from France,

But I can connect to Visual Studio 2005, when Add another Server,

Today I uninstalled my 2005 Team Suite and installed 2008 Team Suite. All of the projects in one of my web application solutions converted correctly, however I have a web reference on the web site that fails to compile. When I go to add a new web reference or update the existing web reference I get an error message: "The components required to enumerate Web references are not installed on this computer. Please re-install Visual Studio". I did find this reference to this issue: http://realise-systems.net/blog/iangriggs/ and tried running : devenv /resetskippkgs from the command line.  When I do that I get the message:

Package "Visual Studio Explorers and designers package" has failed to load properly ( GUID = {8D529D3-625D-4496-8354-3DAD630ECC1B} ). Please contact package vendor for assistance. Application restart is recommended, due to possible environment corruption. Would you like to disable loading this package in the future? You may use 'Package "denv /resetskippkps" to re-enable' package loading.

Has anyone else seen this and is there a solution or an upcoming fix or a hot fix that I can install?
