Hi all,

Can you please confirm that you did the following?

Install Visual Studio 2010 RC Uninstall .NET Framework 4 RC Install .NET Framwork 4 RTM

IF so then this is an unsupported scenario. Visual Studio 2010 RC is not compatible with .NET Framework 4.

If you are having a different issue then please let me know and we can work through those issues.

Thanks!

What I did is:

Install Visual Studio 2010 RC

Unstall Visual Studio 2010 RC completly

Install Visual Studio 2010 Final

During setup I got servarl times  the message "operation could not completed".

After setup finished I tried to start Visual Studio and try to selec my default profile, which as C#.

Again I got the message "operation could not completes" and Visual Studio close down.

I repeat install several times and used funton repair. Result was ever the same.

Uwe

Hi,

Two of us here too get the same problem when we try to install RC. Our machine environments:

Machine1 already had:

Visual Studio 2008

.Net Framework 3.5

SQL Server Express Edition 2008

No prior installation of VS 2010 RC

No .Net Framework 4.0

OS: Windows XP 32-bit

Machine 2 already had:

No VS 2008, No SQL Server

No prior installation of VS 2010 RC

No .Net Framework 4.0

OS: Windows XP 32-bit

This happened with mine as well. I had originally installed Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate RC. I then uninstalled it to install the final build.

During the setup, I would get "The operation  could not be completed" messages. This occurs during:

VSA_Setup_x86 (not 100% sure of name) Crystal Report Templates ASP.NET MVC 2 - Visual Studio 2010 Tools

I then attempted a repair and that did not fix the problem since the same error  comes up. I then tried the update method (instructions below). This did not help either although I believe it manged to install the crystal report templates. However, the error now occurs at:

DevEnv_Setup_x86_enu ASP.NET MVC 2 - Visual Studio 2010 Tools

Does anyone have a solution yet?

-Update Method-

1. Run Programs And Features from the control panel.
2. Attempt to uninstall VS2010 to bring up setup menu.
3. Select Add/Change Program instead of uninstall.
4. Uncheck each checked item.

 - The update buttons should be available.

5. Re-check each item you just unchecked.
6. Press the Update button.
7. Let it run and do it's thing.

I have tried install Visual C++ 2010 Express Beta 2 on Windows 7 32 bit Intel Celeron 2.0 ghz 512 mb Ram - And got "The operation  could not be completed" on installation and start up. And then i have installed it on my second computer : Windows 7 64 bit with Intel Pentium 4 3.0 ghz 2.5 gb Ram , and it is ok. So maybe there is hardware non-compatibility?

I had the same problem upgrading from RC to RTM.

After you completely uninstall the RC, go in and delete or remove the C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0 folder before you try running the installer for the RTM version

Answer 12

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\VisualStudio\SxS\VC7

Set

"FrameworkVer32"="v4.0.30319"

"FrameworkVer64"="v4.0.30319"

It should help with MSBuild :)

Answer 13

Also I created a symbolic link directory : C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework mklink /D v4.0.30128 v4.0.30319

Answer 17

It solved my problem...

CD C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework

in prompt MS-Dos

Then mklink /D v4.0.30128 v4.0.30319

NOTE : On Windows 7 (and vista i imagine) you need to launch Prompt Ms-Dos as Administrator or you will not have rights.
